Ntyuka

This weekend Todd gave me and two guests, who are staying in the guest house, a tour of the Ntyuka village. These people live off of about 50 cents a day. Their houses are made of mud and sticks. Some of the houses are made of bricks but they build them as they have money. If they have a good year and make money they will continue to build. If they have a really bad year their houses just stay as they are and nothing gets built that year. The majority of people in the village wear clothes that are sent over from the Salvation Army and Good Will from America and Australia. A few years ago the president had said, "why would we want to wear another countries discarded clothes." He had a point but the problem was the people out in the bush and poor villages have no money and therefore could not afford anything to wear, especially for the kids. When the new president came to power one of the first things he did was banish that law. Now with Good Will and Salvation Army sending more clothes over these people can buy a shirt and pants for about 50 cents. Most people try to raise crops to harvest and sell, but the land is so dry, it hardly ever rains and water is scarce for these people. Some of them go out into the hills and find rocks that they break into bits and try to sell those. Others raise chickens and goats to butcher and sell. I am not sure how they even do that because the land is so dry and there really isn't anything for the goats to eat except dried up twigs and sticks. It is all very interesting. Saturday we went and climbed Imaji hill. It is behind DCMC. It is definitely a good hike to get to the top. Todd and their two guests drove as far as they could and then they climbed the rest of the way. It took about a half an hour to hike to the top. Luke and Jonah wanted to do something they call trail running to get home. The objective is to run as fast as you can down hill threw the thickest part of the bush. Most of the bush is thorns and sticks. Lets just say Caleb, Moriah, and I opted to ride in the car. Well actually we rode on top of the car. They made it back to the house before we did, but Jonah had cut up his legs pretty badly. Sunday we went to church. It is a very traditional church. Singing of some songs, reading a couple of verses, and praying. We went out to eat with some friends of theirs to a pizzeria. It is owned by a couple from Italy so it is real Italian food. It was very good. There was a playground and mini golf course that we played at while we waited for our food. Today we are going back to Ntyuka to work with the kids. Please pray that these kids will open their heart and that we will be able to connect with them. Please continue to pray for health and safety.
